Are you interested in replacing a missing tooth, but don’t want to spend several months healing from invasive dental implant surgery? You’re in luck.
Health Benefits of Mini Dental Implants
The mini dental implant acts much like its full-sized counterpart, except it is smaller and less invasive. While full-sized dental implants are between 3.4 and 5.8 mm in diameter, mini implants are between 1.8 and 3.3 mm in diameter.
The difference in size means that you don’t have to have as much healthy jawbone tissue to be a candidate for the mini dental implant procedure as you would for full-sized implants.
The procedure is designed to be minimally invasive!
In the past, if you didn’t have sufficient jawbone tissue for a full-sized dental implant, you would have to have a bone graft. Not only do bone grafts complicate your treatment, but they also add to your recovery time and expenses. Recovery from mini dental implants is much shorter. In fact, you are able to wear your replacement teeth immediately after the dental procedure.
Mini Dental Implant Procedure
The mini dental implant procedure takes one visit to our office. First, our dentist will drill a small hole through your gum before inserting the implant and tightening it into place. The procedure is designed to be minimally invasive and doesn’t necessitate stitches, which decreases your recovery time significantly.
After the procedure, your dentist is able to immediately snap your replacement tooth into place. The titanium post inserted into your gum will have a ball on the end, which allows it to attach to the rubber O-ring on your replacement tooth.
